Join us for a dig at the beach!
Wednesday, Feb 24, 3 pm at Kailua Beach Park
As you probably noticed, the city opened the berm late last week and the lake emptied, but tide conditions closed the opening before we could get any saltwater back into the lake.
A group of us are planning to dig a trench from the stream to the bay by hand, or more accurately by shovel.
We need all the help we can get — please join us. Bring a shovel, also good to have are gloves, extra shovels (be sure to label with your name), and water.
The saltwater exchange during a successful berm opening increases the salinity in Kaelepulu Pond and maintains a better ecosystem for the fish, endangered waterbirds and other species who historically thrived in these waters. Improving the habitat for these creatures also benefits all of us who fish, play, and live near these waters.
Hope to see you there!
